Capacity Development
| |
For developing capacity of the different stakeholders in policy advocacy, a wide range of training program are being undertaken. The professional and social groups to be trained including the media professionals, consumer leaders, government officials, non-governmental organizations working on tobacco control among others. The training programs are being arranged according to the specific needs and potential role of the target groups and agents.
Some examples of such training and capacity development for policy makers and tax enforcement authorities include the following |
High-level, multi-pectoral roundtable on administration of sound tax policies to identify political barriers to tobacco tax increases, such as illicit trade, regressivity and influences of the industry (about economic benefit of tobacco use), and propose control policy options to address these barriers. |
Training sessions to correct any myths being perpetuated by the media about the regressivity of tobacco taxes, about the inevitability of increased smuggling from tobacco taxes, and about the economic benefits of tobacco consumption (e.g. employment)
